The Spur is our all-around E bike for heavy guys. This titanium e bike is an all around mountain bike with 29 inch wheels, hydraulic disc brakes, Sram Eagle components, Rock Shox Fork, and handbuilt bombproof wheels and a full Bosch Performance Line CX high torque e-bike drive unit making this the perfect eBike for big and tall guys. This bike is made for singletrack* trail riding, fire roads, and bike packing, but can also be used as a fun commuter or bike for riding around town. The Spur is built with tire clearance for up to 29×3.0″ tires for extra traction, cushion, and stability. These titanium e-bikes for big guys are built super tough and come in L, XL, 2XL, 3XL, and 4XL for riders from 5’10” to 7′. The Spur comes with proportional length cranks for optimal pedaling efficiency, and extra wide handlebars to fit broad shoulders. The wheels are custom built right here at our shop in Boulder, Colorado using our own Clydesdale hubs that are rated for riders up to 450lbs! We build these wheels using 32 double butted spokes per wheel and DT swiss brass pro-lock nipples to keep your wheels true for many miles. Each wheel is precision built by professional wheelbuilders in our shop using high-tech spoke wrenches, wheel building stands, and spoke tension meters.

There are many more factors to building a big and tall bike than most people understand. It is not as simple as just scaling up a “normal” sized frame and calling it good. When you do that, several things happen to the bike. First, the stretched out tubes become less stiff, which results in high speed frame shimmy. This is a scary by-product of a poorly designed bike. Second, the added material makes the bike heavier, especially if the builder tries to solve problem number one with just using bigger heavier tubes. Third, without a fork with a long enough steering tube, the handlebars will be far too low for the tall cyclist causing discomfort in the back, neck, wrists, and arms. Fourth, building a bike for a tall rider with average length cranks will make the rider feel like he’s pedaling a kids bike while sitting up very high. Lennard has developed great frame design concepts to address and solve all of these issues and more, which are all fully applied in the designs of Clydesdale Bikes. A Clydesdale bike designed by Lennard Zinn will be stiff and strong, while remaining lightweight. It will never shimmy at high speeds, and all of the components, including cranks and handlebars, will be proportional to the rider. Fit, performance, comfort, and durability will all be superior on a Lennard Zinn designed bike than a big and tall bike from any other designer out there. We guarantee it.

WHY TITANIUM

Titanium is half the weight of steel, so we can build Clydesdale Bikes for big guys with larger diameter tubing with a frame still lighter than steel. Larger diameter tubing provides greater strength and stiffness for greater power transfer, yet still with amazing compliance for a comfortable ride that doesn’t beat up your body over a long trek.

Titanium has enough strength and fatigue resistance to avoid the need for extremely oversized tubes, providing a compliant ride on rough surfaces that smooths out and absorbs road buzz and small bumps. Steel frames, with their smaller tubes, can be almost as compliant, but aren’t quite as comfortable.

Titanium can never corrode, unlike other metals. It can be painted or – unlike steel or aluminum – can be left without paint, powdercoat or plating, so you never need to worry about scratches. Internal cable routing is simple because the insides of the tubes are naturally impervious to rust and corrosion. Unlike aluminum, titanium has a fatigue limit, so as long as the tubing is not stressed beyond this limit or damaged, it will never fatigue. Titanium can also flex three times further than aluminum and twice as far as steel without permanent damage. Carbon fiber is very vulnerable to crash and notch damage, after which it may fail catastrophically. The epoxy matrix also degrades over the years with exposure to the UV in sunlight. A titanium frame can literally last the rest of your life, and longer.

Pretty much every custom bike we make is designed with a titanium frame. Even the best EMTB can use the benefits of this material. Half the weight of steel with enough fatigue resistance and more than enough strength, titanium frames allow you to enjoy a sleek ride with amazing compliance and minimal road buzz. We can make our tubing as large as we want without adding too much weight to your ride!

Titanium also has the ability to flex much further than either aluminum or steel without experiencing permanent damage. It even outdoes carbon fiber, which is vulnerable to notch damage and crashing, as well as an epoxy matrix that will degrade after years of UV light exposure. Our titanium bike frames can literally last you for the rest of your life!

We also prefer titanium for our ebikes for tall riders because this material never corrodes. We can paint it in custom colors or plate it to minimize scratches. Our team also routes the cabling internally, so that it’s protected by the titanium casing from rust and corrosion.
